MICROTRIP #5 CDT
Microtrip # 5
CAP DE TASTANÓS 1.351 m
A circular winter route above Vilada through a quiet snow-covered valley. 13.2 km, +752 m, steady movement between forest and ridge under sharp winter light.
Plan C, but no compromise.
We started from Vilada and entered the valley early. Snow already covering everything, sound reduced, movement contained. The first part of the route stayed low and enclosed. Forest, shadow, cold air holding steady. No views yet, just a defined line moving forward. As we gained elevation, the terrain started to open slightly. The light came in stronger, sharper. Every ridge, every change in slope more visible.
The route never fully exposes itself all at once. It reveals gradually. By the time we reached the upper sections near Cap de Tastanós, the landscape was fully defined—clean lines, clear contrast, no haze. Winter at its most precise.
CONDITIONS
The day stayed cold from the start, around -1°C to 2°C in the early hours, especially inside the valley where the sun took longer to arrive.
Snow was consistent—compact and dry in shaded sections, allowing stable movement through the forest.
As the sun gained strength, temperatures moved up to around 7–9°C. The light became sharper, increasing contrast across the terrain. South-facing sections softened slightly, while shaded areas remained firm.
No strong wind, but enough exposure in upper sections to keep the temperature controlled.
The terrain held a clear structure throughout:
cold, stable snow in the valley
gradual softening with sun exposure
defined, readable surfaces near the ridge
Everything visible. Nothing hidden.
13.2 km distance
+752 m / –752 m elevation
5h57 total / 3h47 moving
Circular route
Max altitude: 1,351 m
Moderate+, with a steady build. No abrupt sections, but continuous progression from start to finish.
The valley sets the tone early. Quiet, contained, no need to look far. Higher up, the light takes over. Everything becomes more defined, more exposed, but still controlled.
On the way back down, the same path feels different.
More open, more readable, already behind you.
Nothing unexpected.
Just a full day that holds its line from beginning to end.
Cap de Tastanós, as it came.
