MICROTRIP #4 PC

Microtrip # 4
PIC CARLIT 2.921 m

A two-day loop in the Carlit massif. 16 km, +880 m, moving through lakes and granite terrain, with a night at Estany de Sobirans before the final ascent.

We split the route into two days.

First day: approach. Moving through a chain of lakes, gaining height progressively until reaching Estany de Sobirans, where we stopped for the night. The terrain stays open from the beginning—granite, water, no protection. You’re exposed early, with no real transitions to ease into it. Carrying weight changes everything. The distance is not excessive, but the effort builds differently. Slower pace, more attention, less margin. By the time we reached the lake, the light was already dropping. Temperature falling quickly. Everything quiet, but not soft.

Second day starts early. Cold, direct, no delay. From Sobirans, the route continues upward toward Pic Carlit. Less horizontal movement, more vertical intention. The line becomes clearer, but also more demanding. The summit comes after sustained effort. No single hard section, but no release either.

At the top, space opens completely.
Then it’s time to go back down.

CONDITIONS
Late October, stable but demanding. Day 1 started around 4–6°C, dropping quickly near sunset. At the lake, temperatures moved close to 0°C overnight.

Morning of day 2 was cold and direct. Around 1–3°C early, warming up to 12–14°C under sun later in the day.

No snow, but the combination of:

altitude
exposure
carried weight

made everything feel heavier.

Terrain remained dry and stable:

granite sections throughout
defined trails between lakes
no technical obstacles, but continuous effort

Wind appeared near the summit, cutting the temperature again before the descent.

Circular high-altitude route

Moderate on paper, but demanding in reality. The added weight and altitude turn it into a sustained effort from start to finish.

Nothing exaggerated, but nothing easy.

The weight, the altitude, the exposure—it all accumulates.

You don’t notice it in a single moment.
You feel it at the end of each section.

We went looking for height.
What stayed was something quieter, but harder to define.

Carlit held its line.
